Emily quickly checked her inventory, only to find that she was completely out of Type-A Widgets. Panic started to set in. “What am I going to do?” she thought. “I can’t let Mr. Thompson down!”

Just then, her assistant, Jamie, walked in. Seeing the worried look on Emily’s face, Jamie asked, “What’s wrong, Emily?”

“We’re out of Type-A Widgets, and Mr. Thompson needs 100 of them by tomorrow!” Emily replied.

Jamie smiled reassuringly. “Don’t worry, Emily. Remember the new feature we set up in Business Central? The Item Substitution?”

Emily’s eyes lit up. “Of course! How could I forget?”

Together, they sat down at the computer and navigated to the Items page in Business Central. Emily selected the Type-A Widget and accessed the Item Substitutions. There, she found that they had already set up Type-B Widgets as a substitute.

 

 

“Perfect!” Emily exclaimed. “Type-B Widgets will work just fine for Mr. Thompson’s project.”

 

They quickly created a new sales order and entered the Type-A Widgets. As expected, an inventory warning popped up. Emily clicked on “Show Details” and selected the Type-B Widgets from the list of available substitutes.

 

With the order completed, Emily felt a wave of relief. She called Mr. Thompson to explain the situation and let him know that they would be sending Type-B Widgets instead. Mr. Thompson was pleased with the solution and appreciated Emily’s quick thinking.

 

As the day came to an end, Emily reflected on how the Item Substitution feature had saved the day. Not only had it helped her fulfill an important order, but it also ensured that her customer remained satisfied.

 

From that day forward, Emily made sure to regularly update and manage her item substitutions in Business Central. She knew that with this powerful tool at her fingertips, she could handle any inventory challenge that came her way.
